【哈勃太空望远镜 简介】
哈勃空间望远镜属于美国航空航天局(NASA)与欧洲航天局(ESA)的合作项目,是一个能长期在太空中进行观测的轨道天文台,它的名字来源于美国著名天文学家埃德温哈勃。
哈勃望远镜长13.3米,直径4.3米,重11.6吨,造价近30亿美元。1990年4月25日由美国航天飞机送上太空轨道后,它以2.8万公里的时速沿轨道运行。由于不受大气层湍流与散射、以及会吸收紫外线臭氧层干扰,它所获的图像和光谱具有极高的稳定性和可重复性,清晰度是地面天文望远镜的10倍以上。

【Hubble Space Telescope(HST)】
The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a space telescope that was carried into orbit by a space shuttle in 1990. Although not the first space telescope, Hubble is one of the largest and most versatile, and is well-known as both a vital research tool and a public relations boon for astronomy. The HST was built by the United States space agency NASA, with contributions from the European Space Agency, and is operated by the Space Telescope Science Institute. It is named after the astronomer Edwin Hubble.
Hubble's orbit outside the distortion of Earth's atmosphere allows it to take extremely sharp images with almost no background light. Hubble's Ultra Deep Field image, for instance, is the most detailed visible-light image ever made of the universe's most distant objects.
Hubble is the only telescope designed to be serviced in space by astronauts. Four servicing missions were performed from 1993 to 2002, and the fifth was completed in 2009. The telescope is now expected to function until at least 2014, when its scientific successor, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), is due to be launched.
